Something More Permanent

For Writer's Month 2022 Day 12: Roommates

When it became clear that Rekker, and the tour, would be pinned down in California for the foreseeable future Tom decided apartments might be a better solution to a hotel which was becoming increasingly expensive. Some decisions Tom made without input, like putting Vars and Viktor in the section of this building that had concrete outer walls. However, there were others that he wanted to choose, particularly the Soerens who had such a hard life that never gave them the opportunity for normal things.

This was the reason he was out with the youngest of the tour in the passenger seat of his car. He couldn't quite tell if his passenger was nervous or excited. The poor boy had thought he was in trouble over something just for Tom approaching him.

“You can choose any that don't have someone's name on the door yet.” Tom mentioned as they pulled into the parking lot of the small apartment complex he had found to rent, not far from the Strip or where the various Hexed members lived. At first, the company had been reluctant, that was until Tom informed them that he wanted to rent the entire building for 6 months.

He got out and had to encourage Mikkel to even go inside. Who knew what the boy might be thinking at this point. However, once inside he started bounding up the stairs wth Tom following slowly after. “There is an elevator.”

There were three elevators for that matter but the sound of the Dane's heels were receeding above him. No one was here, except Damien who was installing some security equipment. That had discounted the price significantly when Tom offered to train the staff that would take over and leave the security installed. Once he got to the sixth floor it was easy to find the Dane. The door across the hall from the apartment Rik had choosen was tossed wide open. It was a corner apartment with lots of big windows.

“I want this one.” Tom raised a brow and shook his head. “This is a two bedroom.”

Mikkel frowned and glanced back around at the pale blue and dusty grey colors in the room and the big windows. Then he turned on Tom, the Brit easily seeing the upset.

“I can't be in a one bedroom.” He was adamant and started to walk back toward the bedrooms.

“You don't need two bedrooms.” Tom sighed because he had thought either the two or three bedroom apartment would have to go to Torden, or a whole floor. That Dane had so many partners. Mikkel jogged him out of his thoughts.

The Dane was right in front of him, somehow imposing despite his thinness. Tom found the stubborn arms crossed stance attractive of a moment. The Brit shaking his head at his own thoughts. The youngest of the tour had a quality like Ziggy, or his wife, tall and commanding with body language.

“Where will Fredrik sleep?” He snapped and walked into the bigger of the two bedrooms.

Tom followed leaning in the doorway. Honestly, he had forgotten about the Swedish bassist. Forgot that this was a triad of bassists and that Mikkel had two partners. Or a partner and someone he clung to? Tom really didn't know what was going on but he didn't need to because the boy had a valid point.

“I'll get a screen door put on the balcony sliding door, so your finches don't escape.” That was another consideration for some of these rooms, pets. Tom was about to step away when arms wrapped around him and he got a kiss. It was a full on lip kiss, but more of a quick peck than anything else. Tom blushed and went wide-eyed. The kiss wouldn't have been expected if he went over this scenario a hundred times in his mind. The Dane barely paused as he looked around a little more.

“I need to rent a car.” Mikkel told Tom with certainty. “This is too far from work to walk.”

Tom nodded, not because he agreed with the wilder Dane having a car, but he definitely didn't want him walking. “I'll have one brought over once we're all moved in. He hadn't considered that a more settled few months might mean better transportation. Unlike a hotel where most things were cared for, here, they were going to need to do things like shop for groceries. On the other hand, maybe this would be a good experience, especially for some of the younger musicians who hadn't really lived on their own yet.

Mikkel came back and grinned. “Can we go to the garden place?”

Tom wasn't sure what the boy meant and figured this was a language gap. Those happened sometimes.

“Where they sell the plants.”

Tom couldn't help but smile at the clarification. Mikkel was annoying and stirred up a lot of fighting and yelling. He was hell around Gilly and Lars much of the time but in this moment he was endearing. All he was thinking about was his partners and now, making the place beautiful for them.

“Sure.” Tom turned toward the door. “The elevator.”

He had no desire to walk the stairs again. Leaving the Dane to call the elevator he wrote 'Mikkel, Sigurd, Fredrik' on the paper taped to the door. He did wonder if Sigurd and Fredrik would be ok with this but figured he would find out soon enough.

“Maybe you should go with Robert?” Tom mentioned. It wasn't that he didn't want to go with the kid but Robert would enjoy it.

“No.” Mikkel didn't leave room for argument as he stepped into the elevator while holding it for the Brit.

“Ok. We'll go.” Tom relented only to be hugged from behind by the suddenly energetic Dane. This was going to be a long day, but not necessarily an unenjoyable one.
